be mine

I wish I would have documented the disaster in my home the night before Valentines Day.

When I asked Chamberlain what he would like to give to his classmates for a Valentine I, for sure, thought he would say Peeps or Conversation Hearts, he loves those.  To my surprise he replied with sugar cookies. Not just any sugar cookies, the ones that I made a few days prior to introduce the gender of our new addition.  I found a new recipe for sugar cookies the Lofthouse sugar cookie to be exact and these cookies require planning and time. I made the dough on Sunday and decided I would bake and frost the cookies on Monday to be ready to take to class Tuesday morning.
I figured Chamberlain and I could decorate together during Siri's nap.  Of course Siri decieded to skip her nap that day and I ended up baking, frosting and sprinkling cookies till the wee hours of the morning.  My kitchen was sugar cookie central I only have about 2 feet of counter space to roll out dough, cut, frost and sprinkle. Then to let the cookies cool I had cookies spread out everywhere  kitchen table, washing machine some on the microwave.  See why I wished I would have taken a picture.
Then to realize past midnight I had ran out of saran wrap, tin foil and paper plates. Everything I was using to display the cookies for classmates. Luckily I have the greatest husband who ran to the store and picked up everything needed even though it was way past his bedtime.

I did all this only to realize that the cookies were just going to get shoved and smashed into a big manila folder  and tossed to the side. Who wants to eat a sugar cookies when they have dip sticks, fruit by the foots, dum dums and more.
However, I remind myself its what my son wanted and I as a mother wanted to please his wishes.  In the end I had lots of left over cookies to pass out to neighbors, friends and siblings and the surpise of the day was when my Parents came up.
Those cookies did not go to waste.
These are just a few. I think I made about 3 or 4 dozen sugar cookies all different sizes from one batch/recipe.

Just so you don't feel alone... I do this kind of thing all the time. In fact I volunteered to be in charge of Annie's valentine party at school- so there I was with all my kids throwing this extravagant party all in the name of trying to make Annie feel special. It was a nightmare, but Annie was thrilled- just like Chamberlin was. I've decided being a mom is some tricky business. And those cookies look really good.
