the big race

When we moved to Hurricane Josh started preparing to run the Kanab 10K which is held every year Mothers day weekend, and has been as long as I can remember. I have ran it several times growing up and one year I won a brown sleeping bag at like age 10, I was so happy to win that.  That being said the last time I ran it I was in college sometime before 2004. Josh and I have told ourselves every year we would run the 10k and so far every year we have not until this year.  We even got Tim and Tanner to run with him.  I think Tim jumped at the chance to run a 10k.  Tim my brother in law is a runner and was a runner in college and has ran many races, and even a marathon, I believe.  Tim for almost 6 years has been a very good sport when it comes to the activities that my Dad, Husband and brothers like to play.  They wake up at the crack of dawn and go play basketball down at the old stake center in town (well not anymore they tore it down) for several hours and Tim although not a baller goes and plays and pretty much is a good sport.  But not this past weekend. This past weekend was his chance to shine and to show us what he can do.  It was so fun to banter back and forth with phone calls pictures and text preparing for this race.  At one point Chamberlain turned to me and said Tim is going to beat Dad in this race.  I had to agree with him there, Tim is a runner and Josh is not in fact this was Josh's first race ever. I hope that this sparked a tradition of running the 10K and even more races each year. It was fun to see the hard work pay off, and see bright smiling faces at the end of the race. Tim did beat Josh and Tanner and I think Tim could have ran faster but Josh apparently was too hilarious to pass by for the first 3 miles.
Josh beat his time he was hoping to complete it in.  And in the end we walked away with 3 trophy winners. Each won a trophy in their division. I think they all felt pretty proud of themselves. I know I sure am.

Just a side note the winner finished the race in 37 minutes he won a river trip down the Grand Canyon for being first.  We were really hoping Tim would win.  The race starts and has started in the parking lot of Moqui Cave for years.   It is one of the most scenic canyons to run down. Shelbie and I decided we would for sure do it next year!
Tim flashing that grin to Hudson cheering on the sidelines.
Our first finisher of the race... and I believe he finished in the top 25.

Of course they had to take their trophies to show the Cave Man and take pictures at the starting line.
Siri wanted in on the action as well since I had the guys posing in start positions.
Proud race finisher, trophy winner.
Here is to next year!
Shelbie and I posing with Megan Smith our friend and childhood neighbor who put the entire race together.  She did such an awesome job and we are so proud of her!
